ABOUT HETMA

The Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance (HETMA) is a 501(C)3 advocacy organization focused on growing the influence and elevating the profile of the higher education audiovisual vertical. We accomplish our mission by connecting our community, educating our members, amplifying our collective voice, and impacting the broader AV industry. As an inclusive, supportive, and accessible organization, HETMA does not just represent a cause, we represent a community. We are by us and for us.

OUR PURPOSE

At HETMA, our mission is rooted in empowering the higher education AV community through advocacy, engagement, and collaboration. Here's how we live that out:

1. Advocacy: We are the voice of higher education within the broader AV industry. Through initiatives like the HETMA Approved Program, we strengthen our partnerships with manufacturers and institutions to ensure that the unique needs of higher ed are represented, respected, and prioritized.

2. Events: “We were virtual before it was cool," but we are more than that. We are a thriving community of colleagues. Information sharing is at the heart of what we do. From online summits to in-person gatherings, we create spaces for professionals to learn, grow, and lead together—because in higher ed, knowledge should always be accessible.

3. Community: We believe in the power of unity. The higher ed AV vertical contributes over $250 billion annually to the industry, and our collective strength lies in collaboration. Whether through the Prism Scholarship, Advisory Boards, Higher Ed AV Media, FLEXspace, or events like the HETMA Golf Classic, we’re building a thriving ecosystem where professionals can connect, contribute, and create lasting impact.

We offer two membership types that are always FREE OF CHARGE for the higher ed community! If you have a .edu, ac.uk, or equivalent, you automatically become an institutional member and may join our monthly all-hands meetings as well as our backend communication channels (ya know, where the real biz takes place). We also welcome corporate allies to partner with us for our advisory boards, “HETMA Approved” program, and as conference session providers.
